Unified Payments Interface (UPI) is a system that powers multiple banks accounts into a single mobile application. Dr. Raghuram G. Rajan, Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, launched the pilot on April 11th, 2016 in Mumbai. Banks have started to upload their UPI-enabled apps on the google play store from 25th August 2016 onwards. The first major step taken by India to achieve a cashless economy was the introduction of the Unified Payment Interface (UPI). With the help of the new feature, the smartphone can be used as a virtual debit card. User can also receive and send money with the help of UPI. This is a payment system that allows users to link more than one bank account in a single smartphone app and make fund transfers without having to provide IFSC code or account number.
