Reliance Jio has launched a substantial rollout exercise for the Jio Phones in which they plan to deliver 4-5 million phones each week. The pre-bookings of the handset will be commencing from 24 August 2017. However, in the Delhi NCR area, the bookings have already been opened in certain offline retail stores, ahead from the scheduled date.
The VoLTE-enabled feature phone is available for beta testing till August 23. Reliance has been reaching out to the retailers and educating them about the delivery process. The target is set by the company for selling lakhs of handsets each day. This will be accomplished through the Jio Centres and Reliance Digital Outlets.
It has been reported that the handsets will be delivered at 1996 Reliance Digital Outlets in more than 700 cities and 1072 Jio Centres and other local retailers in India. Company will be delivering 5 million handsets every week and they are expecting to sell around 4-5 million handsets in first 6 months.
At first, 40 Jio Phones will be given to each retailer that can be availed through Jio Vouchers only. This will be on the basis of first come first serve. Dealers can make the purchase of 40 handsets by paying a sum of Rs. 20000 to the company which makes it Rs. 500 per voucher. Reports say that the headsets will be evenly distributed amid various retailers.
There are millions questions that must be whirling in the minds of buyers regarding the pre-order process, the documentation needed, number of handsets each user can purchase, information about the delivery dates and if the security money is refundable or not. Bookings with Aadhaar Number– In order to book a Jio Phone, a copy of your Aadhaar Number will be requested by the Jio Retailer. As an individual consumer, single handset will be issued on your Aadhaar Number and this rule is implicated throughout the nation. This means that you won’t be able to apply for multiple handsets by booking from different stores. As soon as the Aadhaar Number is submitted with the request, it will be uploaded to centralised software which will assign a token number for you. This number will have to be cited when you go to the retailer for phone pickup.
Price & Delivery Dates-
In an event on July 21, Mr. Mukesh Ambani announced that Jio Phone will not require any restricted upfront money. The security amount of Rs 1500 is refundable. Also, when you make offline bookings by submitting your Aadhaar Number, no security money will have to be paid. You will be required to pay Rs. 1500 only during the pickup of the mobile phone. The money can also be reclaimed after 36 months of using the mobile phone.
For the people who will be placing instant orders of the phone are expected to receive them from September 1 to September 4. The booking dates will increase with the increased number of orders. It is suggested to make pre-order if you wish to get your hands on the phone earlier. September is the month of deliveries as announced by Mr. Ambani. The offline bookings are reportedly opened in very few areas of Delhi NCR. However, the official openings will commence from 24 August via MyJio app.
Jio Phone Features-
The Jio Phone is an entry level phone which will come with unlimited data, voice and texts. With a monthly recharge of Rs. 153, customers can avail free voice, texts, and unlimited high speed data for 28 days.
Other than that, this phone will have an alphanumeric keypad, microSD card slot, FM radio, 2.4 inch QVGA display, and torchlight. It is a single SIM handset that will operate only on 4G VoLTE networks. Voice command is also supported by the phone and it comes with a panic button that can be enabled by long pressing number “5”. This phone will also be able to play music for you via Jio Music.
At the 40th AGM, Jio Phone TV Cable was also announced by Mr. Ambani that will allow the user to connect their phones to the television sets. A monthly recharge of Rs. 309 will be needed to establish connection between the phone and the television.
